UBBSLA experts attended the first meeting of the Bulgarian partners with approved projects under the Interreg Euro-MED Program 2021-2027
An online meeting of the Bulgarian partners in the thematic projects under the Euro-Mediterranean Basin Programme (Euro-MED) 2021-2027 was held on 16.04.2025. The programme aims to support cooperation across the Mediterranean borders by providing funds for projects developed and managed by public administrations, universities, private organisations and civil society organisations. Bulgaria is part of the extended programme area for the current period, in which 96 partners participate, of which 18 municipalities.
The meeting was organised by the National Association of Municipalities, as the national contact point of the Green Living Areas mission and a project partner Community4LivingAreas. The project’s objective is to define and promote a governance mechanism that accelerates the implementation of climate change mitigation and adaptation solutions through capacity building and knowledge transfer.
The first meeting of all organizations from Bulgaria included in projects under the Interreg Euro-MED Program was an introductory meeting, to allow representatives of municipalities, associations, non-governmental and eco-organizations, etc. to get to know each other and to present their projects, key results and achievements, as well as the role of their organization in implementing the project’s objectives. During the meeting, the CEO of UBBSLA, Mrs. Mariana Kancheva, presented the two current projects of the association eWAsTER: Preventing e-waste from polluting MED water by turning waste into a resource and ProLIGHTmed: Progressive solutions in greener optimization of public lightning in EURO-MED area, as well the newly approved project TO CARE MED: Transferring Tourism Carrying Capacity Tool TO CARE about Sustainability of MED ecotourism strategies, plans, products and services, which starts in April 2025.
It is planned to hold such online meetings between national organizations periodically in order to create an opportunity for the partners of thematic projects in Bulgaria to establish connections and future interactions, support and promote the achieved results. Thus, by identifying the key results of the implemented projects, important legislative changes at national and European level can be tracked, networking and seeking synergy between the different projects. NAMRB will facilitate the process of transferring the results of the thematic projects to interested parties through a mentoring program.
